The Foothills Regional Commission, in partnership with Rutherford County, is leading a Feasibility Study to extend the Thermal Belt Rail Trail, beginning at the existing Forrest W Hunt Dr trailhead to the proposed Colfax Gin Park on Main Street in Ellenboro. This trail segment is a critical missing link of the Thermal Belt Rail Trail network and will improve overall bicycle and pedestrian connectivity to Ellenboro. The Feasibility Study will evaluate route scenarios along roadways and off-road corridors to determine the preferred route between the existing trailhead in Forest City to the proposed Colfax Gin Park in Ellenboro.
