Housing Counselor Position

Foothills Regional Commission is seeking a Housing Counselor for their Section 8 Housing Program. Duties for this position include (but are not limited to):

Processing re-certifications and interim re-examinations monthly and mover contracts as needed; enters application data into computer software program; performs verification of information such as income, child care, bank accounts, and other data information submitted by tenants, conduct briefings with tenants and landlords reviewing the rules and regulations of the HCV program, determine whether or not a unit is affordable upon submission of a Request for Tenancy Approval and negotiate rents with owners, assist families and owners in filling out official documents and forms required by the program, deal directly with tenants and owners and are generally the first point of contact for problems.  Work requires working knowledge of the Housing Choice Voucher Program and some judgment and initiative within a pre-determined set of guidelines in the performance of duties.

 

Graduation from an accredited high school preferable supplemented with an associates degree in business or a human services field or related. Prefer some experience in human services eligibility work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work is performed primarily in an inside environment. 

Starting salary is $39,500.  Excellent benefits package includes health, dental, vision, 401k match, and NC local government pension. Work is performed primarily in an office environment.
